Arlen Specter Switches Sides

While I was watching a news segment about Arlen Specter's switch to the Democratic party, I was shocked by his reason. He said that he felt that by being a Republican would cost him his Senate seat.

Is that the only reason for your change, Mr. Specter? I thought people who went to Washington served the people and not themselves. It is so sad to hear that people simply change sides to win a seat in the Senate or elected office.

So much for serving the people. I guess it is OK to do change sides if it is for selfish reasons. If he had mentioned something about the party or its platform on spending, military or something else, I could have accepted his change and pointed to my fellow Republicans yet another example of how we are continuing to fail the people.

This week the Republican party leadership met to discuss the future of the party and they are wondering how to improve their image. It is simple, guys.
  1. Start acting like Republicans! Small government, less taxes, fiscal responsibility.
  2. Stop falling prey to the flavor of the day syndrome. Stay focused. I respect individuals who stay on course rather than flip-flopping in their opinions.
  3. Demonstrate to the American people a sense of nationalism and pride.
  4. Stand up for the American ideal.

You will be surprised by how just doing these things will change the opinions of the American people.
