US Department of Homeland Security Monitors Social Network and Blog Sites

In a recent Reuter's article, the US Department of Homeland Security has been monitor large social network sites and blogs for the past 18 months.

Sites include Twitter, Facebook, Blogger and other large sites. According to the Homeland Security document, the program was created to "collect information used in providing situational awareness and establishing a common operating picture."
