Chicago May Decriminalize Marijuana

Several Chicago councilmen are considering a new law that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The Chicago police department arrests 23,000 people each year for possession. The thought is that if marijuana is decriminalized, the police would be free to handle more serious crimes.

According to the pro-marijuana group, NORML, the US spends $10 billion dollars each year to arrest and prosecute 523,000 people.
