Defusing the Automatic Budget Cuts for Defense

As the clock ticks towards the deadline for the budget-cutting super committee and nothing has been done by either party, Senators John McCain and Lindsey Graham are now working on legislation to stop the automatic trigger that would cut the defense budget.

The bill would only stop the cuts from occurring in defense while allowing the other budget cuts to take effect. The house is also considering the same thing. Democrats in both houses refuse to allow social programs to be the only items have their budgets cut.

In the face of this new legislation, President Obama has stated that he "will not accept any measure that attempts to turn off the automatic cut trigger."
